TSA clearly stood down from any semblance of a comprehensive, universal enhanced screening procedure.

“The dumbest part: they did two pat-down demonstrations — male on male, and female on female,” the House staffer said. And they used a young female TSA volunteer “and in front of a room of 200 people, they touched her breasts and her buttocks. People were averting their eyes. The TSA was trying to demonstrate ‘this is not so bad,’ but it made people so uncomfortable to watch, that people were averting their eyes.”

In order to enter the USA, I was never touched, I was never “Backscatted,” and I was never metal detected.  In the end, it took 2.5 hours, but I proved that it is possible.  I’m looking forward to my next flight on Wednesday.

Once at the bottom of the escalator at Bradley International Airport’s Terminal A the Connecticut State Trooper, assigned to Troop W, the Troop assigned specifically to the airport, demanded my ID. I asked him if I had done anything illegal … and I was informed that photographing a TSA security checkpoint was illegal, and specifically a ‘Federal Offense.”

I politely (and there has to be a security tape somewhere that shows I was calm at all times) informed the Trooper that the TSA publicly states that photography of checkpoints is legal, with limited restrictions.

…The Trooper informed me that he was waiting on a representative from the TSA’s Office of Law Enforcement and reiterated that I was in “big trouble.”

He was released with an apology within a half hour after he escalated  to the tsa national office

Less than 20 minutes after I was told I was being detained and that I was not free to leave the terminal the TSA agent approached the State Trooper, whispered something in the Trooper’s ear and I was quickly apologized to … with that both the TSA agent and the Trooper quickly leaving me alone.

And that’s the best part.  Because  He has contacts, HIS hassle was minimal.

He’s not using the word, “right.”

I asked if I could have a witness. I was told there was one (the other TSA guy in the room). I asked specifically, “Am I permitted to have my own witness. I was told no. After a standard groping, I exited the private room. At that point, The clerk demanded I provide my boarding pass and ID. I very politely asked why. Instead of answering, the clerk called a supervisor. When she arrived, the clerk said “He is refusing to comply.” Knowing where that was going, I immediately responded, that I was not refusing annoying, I simply asked a question. The supervisor said “We need the data for our records.” I again asked why. She asked if I wanted to fly today.

A retired special education teacher on his way to a wedding in Orlando, Fla., said he was left humiliated, crying and covered with his own urine after an enhanced pat-down by TSA officers recently at Detroit Metropolitan Airport.

The vid here is black-boxed, so there are no ‘parts’ showing other than the boy’s bare back and the back of his head.  You can hear him crying ‘no!’

And the CEO of the company that owns Rapiscan, OSI, was “selected to accompany” President Obama on his trip to India last week.

My interpretation of it left me with three impressions that Obama wanted to hammer:

The TSA is working hard

The skivvy bomber would have passed through metal detectors undetected

Obama meets with TSA security bigwigs once a week.

I’ll append video when I can.

If we can just look into traveler’s pasts, then we’d be safer, and able to avoid the strip-searching thing.  So the argument goes.

Privacy issues:

Do you want the TSA to be able to pull up your arrest history?  You know that police already do, when they stop you for traffic violations.

Religion

Do you want Nuns to get free passes because they wear habits?  Will you also extend that to women wearing veils?

Will you verify whether someone is a nun?  Earlier this month, an Asian man dressed up and wore a latex mask, passed through TSA screening, and convinced everyone that he was 40 years older than he actually was.

It shouldn’t be news that the tsa has been watching your behavior for years:

Since January 2006, behavior-detection officers have referred about 70,000 people for secondary screening, Maccario said. Of those, about 600 to 700 were arrested on a variety of charges, including possession of drugs, weapons violations and outstanding warrants.

Look at that last sentence: drugs, weapons, and outstanding warrants.

You are already being profiled.  You were before January 2010.

WASHINGTON — After weeks of pressure from pilot unions over new airport-screening measures, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has agreed to exempt pilots from enhanced pat-downs and full body scans, effective immediately.

She reluctantly agreed.  As a 3-year breast cancer survivor she says she didn’t want the added radiation through her body.  But, Bossi says she did agree.

“The T.S.A. Agent told me to put my I.D. on my back,” she said.  “When I got out of there she said because my I.D. was on my back, I had to go to a personal screening area.”

They promise they’ll be gentle with your kids.  They just refuse to tell you what they will do:

“Officers are trained to work with parents to insure a respectful screening process for the entire family while providing the best possible security for all travelers.”

“We asked the TSA on Thursday night if they would be more specific.  They sent us back the exact same sentence, but then added this second sentence.” – wbtv

After a thorough risk assessment and after hearing concerns from parents, we made the decision that a modified pat down would be used for children 12 years old and under who require extra screening.”

“We emailed back to ask what exactly “modified” meant but Jon Allen with the TSA replied, “I can’t discuss specifics of a security procedure such as a pat down.” – wbtv

As he left Washington on Friday, Mr. Boehner headed across the Potomac River to Reagan National Airport, which was bustling with afternoon travelers. But there was no waiting in line for Mr. Boehner, who was escorted around the metal detectors and body scanners, and taken directly to the gate.
